In Summary

The National Police Service has arrested seven suspects over the November 30 disturbance at Kariobangi North PCEA Church and appealed to Kenyans for confidential tips to support ongoing investigations.

The National Police Service on Tuesday arrested seven people linked to the November 30 disturbances at the Kariobangi North PCEA Church.

NPS spokesperson Muchiri Nyaga said the suspects were picked up in Lucky Summer, adding that more arrests are likely as investigators review photographic evidence and audio recordings from the scene. He urged members of the public to relay any information through official police channel.

This comes amid the political tension that rose after the November 27 by-elections where the DCP Party leader, Rigathi Gachagua visited the church in celebration of his candidate, David Wanyoike who won the Kariobangi North MCA seat.

According to the NPS, the seven suspects include Charles Otieno Opiyo, Wilson Okoth alias M.C. Otieno, Michael Mutunga Kavulunze, Brian Omondi Odhiambo alias ‘Bryo’, Reggy Opiyo Otwole, Elisha Otieno Ochieng and Odhiambo Onyango.

The NPS condemned the Kariobangi church incident and assured the public of firm and lawful action against those involved.

The statement reaffirmed the Service’s commitment to upholding safety, public order, and adherence to legal processes.

“As a Service, we remain committed to ensuring that all forms of criminality are dealt with firmly within the confines of the law,” Nyaga stated.

Beyond the arrests, the police appeal for public cooperation formed a significant part of the communication.

The NPS encouraged Kenyans who witnessed the incident or possess information to come forward, stressing that community partnership remains vital to successful investigations.

“We beseech Kenyans to work collaboratively with the police for the good of all,” the Service said, calling for actionable tips from civilians who may have seen the events unfold.

To facilitate this, the NPS listed several channels through which the public can relay information, including toll-free emergency lines 999 and 112, the #FichuaKwaDCI hotline 0800 722 203, and the DCI WhatsApp number 0709 570 000.

The Service reiterated that all credible information will be treated with confidentiality and urgency.

Throughout the statement, the police reaffirmed their broader mission to safeguard every Kenyan and resident. “We reiterate our steadfast commitment to the safety and security of all Kenyans and residents,” Nyaga affirmed, highlighting the NPS mandate amid growing public scrutiny following recent security incidents across the country.

The Kariobangi North disturbance, though still under investigation, has drawn significant attention, prompting a robust response from law enforcement.

The arrests announced on Tuesday represent a decisive step forward as detectives piece together evidence to establish a clear account of the events and the roles played by each suspect.

As the NPS proceeds with its investigations, the Service assures the public that updates will be provided as necessary.

For now, the seven arrested suspects await formal charges, while police continue gathering evidence to bring all perpetrators to justice.
